April and October, why so bittersweet??

I AM A BOSTON SPORTS FAN!! I love baseball season, the red sox and who ever is playing the Yankees get my vote, I love going to Fenway, whether it is to watch a game, take a tour or even to attend a wedding expo.  I love football, college, NFL or even the women's league, I love the patriots, and who ever is playing against Peyton Manning, gets my vote.  I also love soccer, and even though I was never a great soccer player or even athlete like my siblings, it has been in my life for as long as I can remember.  I do enjoy watching soccer on TV, however I sometimes feel that the MLS is a little boring because it is pretty slow paced compared to the European leagues and the world cup. I love both women and men soccer however over the years I have really fallen back in love watching the women teams play.  I grew up as Mia Hamm and Brandi Chastain being mentors, and watching the Olympics.    I love going to Gillette stadium whether its to watch the revs or the patriots, or to tour the hall of fame or even to ice skate at patriots place.  There really are no bad seats at Gillette.  I love the Celtics and over the years I have also became quite a big Bruins fan.  I love going to the TD banknorth center whether we are bundled up, watching through the frost as the players skate after a puck and constantly get penalties, or watching as the giants in green run back and forth sometimes doing slam dunks and other things to get the crowd going.  So from reading this you probably think WOW good times, where's the bittersweet part?  and here goes

As I reflected this week , this week brings up some not so positive things.  This week does mark the ten year anniversary of the "bloody sock," Go RED SOX.

However also today is the one year anniversary of my "accident" in the hospital. And yes, it is meant to say "in."  I was hospitalized with a PE( pulmonary embolism), that morning they performed a follow up bone marrow biopsy.  After the procedure I was not feeling very good, they checked some blood work and concluded that I had a very high potassium level and so they aggressively lowered it with OUt rechecking blood work first.  In order to lower the potassium level they some how over corrected it, bottoming my sugar out.  I was found on the floor next to my bed unconscious and having a seizure.  I was placed on a backboard and my mom was called because they needed someone there so when I woke up they could check to see if I had an altered mental status.  Conclusion was I had broke my back in 2 places, had to wear a back brace for a long while.

Also, this week, October 24, 6 years ago my aunt left us to become a butterfly. and then there is the "fair weather" aspect that comes with October!  Being a red sox fan, if the sox are at the top of the leaderboard October baseball is great!  However if the sox, are bringing up the caboose, October baseball is non exsistent.

What sports fan does not love April, opening day, the beginning of a long few rollercoaster months!  Then there is the marathon, now a bittersweet day, however, I grew up going to every single marathon.  As kids, we would cut oranges and bring little Dixie cups of water, we would watch as the buses drove by my noni's house as they brought the runners and volunteers to the starting line.  We would go to the same spot every year, lining the sidewalk and trying to get as many runners as we could to give us a high five or take our water or oranges.  It was a worry free fun time for us.  Unfortunately now the memories of that day will be some negative and some positive.  The children being raised now will not be able to experience that fun worry free day we did, they will now celebrate it with heightened security, worry and a day of remembrance for those who were lost.

Easter, one of those holidays that used to be sacred, as like Christmas stores were closed and very few restaurants were open.  Now Easter is a religious holiday, however more and more places are opening on that day.
April 19, 2010, I SAID YES TO MY SOULMATE, THE MAN THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN THERE THROUGH SICKNESS AND ALL, THE MAN IN WILL SPEND THE REST OF MY LIFE WITH.

After my proposal the bitter side of April started to shine through. Even years before the events of the marathon bombing, marathon Monday and Easter have often been celebrated at my second home.  Marathon Monday 2011, 4AMish, I went into septic shock, when my mom got me to the hospital my fever was up well past 103.  That actually was the beginning of a new stage of hell.  That was my first near death septic staph infection. Unfortunately that was not my only near death infection.  I had to have my gall bladder removed on good Friday, my family visited the next day and I was up walking. My niece gave me a card and she told me I could not open it until I was told to on Easter morning.  Easter morning I was told to open the card and inside was the ultrasound picture of gio saying its a boy! That was the sweet part, my sister came to visit with Aaliyah and I didn't feel to bad, however a few hours later, I got a extremely high fever, I became delusional and was taken to the ICU where I stayed for 10days.

As a sports fan April and October are great times and I hope that my body will decide to play along. As October is coming to an end, knocking on wood, the sox brought up the caboose, the Yankees also had a poor showing and I have not had any lengthy admissions this month.  OBSTACLE WILL BE COMPLETED IN 5 DAYS
